Join us for a discussion with John B. King, Jr., Education Secretary under President Obama and president and CEO of The Education Trust. King will speak about his passion for education, which he credits for saving his life by providing him with rich and engaging educational experiences and by giving him hope for the future.
Following this discussion, King will facilitate a panel of education leaders active at the local and state levels. The panel will focus on the educational needs of Baltimore City youth and how to incorporate and advocate for a racial equity lens in education policy. Panelists will include representatives from the following organizations:
- ACLU Maryland
- Baltimore Algebra Project
- Baltimore Education Coalition
- BMORE Caucus (Baltimore Movement of Rank-and-File Educators)
- Teachers' Democracy Project

On March 15, a group of Baltimore Corps Fellows spent the day in Annapolis. This week, S enior Development Manager Dani Faulkner has been at the National Technology Conference, representing Baltimore Corps in the career center and giving advice to those looking to make a shift in their professional lives.On March 7, Baltimore Corps hosted an information session for potential Fellows and Allies at Impact Hub Baltimore. On March 6, Baltimore Corps hosted its first happy hour and fundraiser for Public Allies Maryland at B Side Karaoke Bar. Thanks to all who came out to support and show off their vocal chops!
On March 2, Baltimore Corps participated in MICA's 2nd Annual Design Fest. From this full-day workshop, Baltimore Corps was able to further cement our approach to design thinking; a tool that we incorporate with Fellows in their professional learning plans.
On February 27, current Partner Organizations gathered at R. House for a special appreciation gathering.
On February 25, Partner Organization Black Male Yoga Initiative were featured in People Magazine.
On February 18, Presidents' Day, our Public Allies Maryland team joined in a national day of service in conjunction with Civic Works, cutting ivy vines so that the trees in Clifton Park can grow stronger.
On February 13, Partner Organization Black Male Yoga Initiative were featured on Good Morning America. On February 11, an interview of 2 017-18 Elevation Awardee Ana Rodney (conducted by 2016-17 Elevation Awardee Michelle Antoinette Nelson) was featured on Baltimore Magazine's website. In February, Kiva Baltimore borrowers Simply Elegance Studio and FullBlast STEAM Edutainment were fully funded. Keep an eye out for new local businesses to support through the Kiva crowdfunding platform...
In February's issue of Baltimore Magazine, Baltimore Corps was named one of the best places to work.
