Caryn York, CEO

Caryn York is a social innovator, nonprofit executive, and community advocate who has dedicated her career to advancing career opportunities for underestimated communities. Carynrecently returned to her hometown of Baltimore City to lead Baltimore Corps as its 2nd President & CEO, focused on reimagining civic service, strengthening recruitment, hiring, and advancement for BIPOC professionals, increasing impact investments in local social entrepreneurs, and normalizing workplace equity frameworks across industries.

Prior to Baltimore Corps, Caryn’s efforts focused on eliminating barriers to economic opportunity for working-class communities struggling to thrive economically. Most recent, Caryn led the Women’s Prison Association (WPA) in New York City, the nation’s oldest institution to prioritize the needs of women and mothers impacted by carceration and homelessness, as their youngest, first Black woman President and CEO. As CEO of Baltimore’s Job Opportunities Task Force (JOTF), Caryn worked with state and local government and community-based organizations in Maryland to help low-wage workers advance to high-wage jobs. During her tenure at JOTF, Caryn successfully led community-informed public policy efforts to decriminalize poverty and race, including, but not limited to, pretrial “cash bail” reforms, eliminating punitive driver’s license suspensions, debtors’ prisons and court-mandated fees, and expanding access to criminal record expungement for workers struggling to secure employment with a criminal background.

Caryn holds a BA in International Studies from Washington College and enjoys eating, napping, yoga, traveling and spending time with her new baby girl, Olivia.
