Application Deadline for Public Allies Maryland is August 31

(BALTIMORE) – Today, Baltimore Corps announced that it will serve as the new organizational partner for Public Allies in Maryland.

“Public Allies allows Baltimore Corps to expand its programming, offering an additional entry point into the pipeline to equity in leadership in Baltimore’s social sector,” said Fagan Harris, Baltimore Corps President & CEO. “By building on the solid foundation established through our Fellowship program over the past five years, we are now able to extend that same kind of professional development to individuals earlier in their career development.”

Public Allies Maryland is available to anyone over the age of 17 with a high school diploma or GED willing to invest 10 months in nonprofit and community-based organizations, while receiving valuable leadership and professional training.

“Over the past five years, Baltimore Corps has grown from a single program – the Baltimore Corps Fellowship – to a series of programs and services that leverage Baltimore Corps’ core competency of building and deploying robust and diverse professional pipelines in social impact careers across Baltimore,” said Baltimore Corps Board Chair Matt Gallagher. “We are excited to announce our partnership with Public Allies and the AmeriCorps national service network.”

The Public Allies program joins the following programs in Baltimore Corps’ mission to enlist talent to accelerate social innovation in Baltimore and advance a citywide agenda for equity and racial justice:

Fellowship places individuals in social impact positions with Visionary Cause Leaders in the nonprofit, public and private sectors to effect systems-level change. It provides Fellows a yearlong cohort experience designed to provide professional development, networking and collaboration opportunities, and increased understanding of equity and racial justice.
Place for Purpose is a year-round service connecting talented, mission-driven job seekers to social impact career opportunities.
The Elevation Awards provide funding tailored to those with lived experience in Baltimore piloting novel approaches to strengthen city communities. The awards are designed to leverage the assets of communities, elevating community leaders with community solutions and supporting the early-stage pipeline of social entrepreneurs in Baltimore.

Prior to Baltimore Corps bringing Public Allies Maryland into its portfolio, it was established at the University of Maryland School of Social Work Community Outreach Service (SWCOS), where Tiffaney Parkman, PhD, served as the interim director: “We are excited for our new partnership with Baltimore Corps and that Public Allies Maryland will remain in the city," said Parkman. "I am looking forward to the innovation that Baltimore Corps will bring to Public Allies and their commitment to developing community leaders who are passionate about creating a more just and equitable society though community capacity building in local nonprofit and government agencies."
